The Duality of Self: A Choice to Make

In this world of duality, a man must choose
Between the life that's lived in full display
Or one that's hidden, kept from all abuse
And dwells in shadows, far from light of day.

For those who strive to match their outer self
With what the world expects them to portray
Will find, with each step, their wealth and wealth
Are but a fleeting shadow, quickly swayed.

They bend and break, in order to survive
In this cruel world, where image takes command
But in this facade, they soon come to find
That they have lost the self they had at hand.

Yet those who listen to the voice within
And live in accordance with their true self win
The battles that life throws their way, each day
For they are rooted in a world that's gay

The world within, where joy and peace reside
A place where all the worries melt away
A world that's filled with love and hope, inside
Where happiness and peace, will always stay.

So live in accordance with your inner world
And let the outer one, just swirl and twirl
For in the end, the joy and peace you'll find
Is worth more than the emptiness of mind.

The wise words of ancient poets ring
In this world of chaos, where pain takes wing
"Know thyself" they said, and thus be free
From all the bonds of misery.

So heed these words, and make your choice today
Live in accordance with your inner way
And soon, you'll find a happiness untold
In a world where misery takes a hold.

And as the years go by, and wisdom grows
You'll see that living true, has its own flows
For in the end, it's the inner joy
That brings a life, that's filled with happiness and joy.

About this poem

The poem, reflects on the importance of living in accordance with one's inner self. The poem presents the idea that a person must choose between living a life in full display, where they must conform to societal expectations and values, or living a life that is hidden and true to themselves. The poem suggests that those who try to match their outer self with the world's expectations eventually find that they have lost their true self. On the other hand, those who listen to the voice within and live in accordance with their true self are able to win the battles of life and find a world of joy, peace, and happiness within themselves. The poem ends with a message to heed the wisdom of ancient poets and make the choice to live in accordance with one's inner self. The overall message of the poem is that true happiness can only be found by living in accordance with one's inner self, not by conforming to societal norms.
