The Golden Bridge of Lum Sohpetbneng : The Navel of the Earth

Oh Lum Sohpetbneng, the Navel of the Earth,
Where legends say that once a bridge did soar,
A vine of gold that Heaven did bequeath,
To join the realms of men and gods once more.

Yet as sin crept in, the bridge was lost,
And man was left to roam the earth below,
With nothing but his memories to boast,
Of the grandeur and the glory that he'd know.

But lo and behold, atop a rooftop bright,
A sky pool rises, a beacon of hope,
With walls of glass, it shines a brilliant light,
And offers views that make the heart elope.

For those who seek the sky, it is the prize,
The gift of beauty, a glimpse of Paradise.

Inspired by myths and legends of the past,
This sky pool stands as a symbol of might,
A tribute to the tales that time has cast,
And a reminder of what once was right.

For in its depths, the reflection of the sky,
A window to the heavens, it doth lie.

Like the pool of Narcissus, it invites,
The curious and the daring, to come see,
The beauty of the earth and the heights,
That it can offer, for all eternity.

And like the visions seen by Dante's eyes,
It transports us to realms beyond the skies.

From the rooftop, we look out on the land,
And marvel at the majesty below,
The cityscape, the mountains, and the sand,
A tapestry of life, for us to show.

For here, at Lum Sohpetbneng's peak, we find,
The beauty of the earth, of soul and mind.

So let us bask in this wondrous sight,
And let the sky pool be our guide,
To the truths that hide, beyond the light,
And to the legends that still do reside.

For this is not just a pool for the sky,
It's a journey to the heart and soul on high.

About this poem

The poem is a tribute to the sky pool at Lum Sohpetbneng peak in Ri Bhoi , Meghalaya . It is inspired by the legends surrounding the sacred peak, which is considered the Navel of the Earth. According to Khasi lore, a golden vine bridge once connected Heaven and Earth, but was lost due to the rise of sin. The sky pool, located on the rooftop of the Khasi Supermarket apartment complex, serves as a symbol of hope and offers breathtaking views of the skyline. It invites visitors to bask in its beauty and serves as a window to the heavens. The poem draws comparisons to the pool of Narcissus and the visions seen by Dante, transporting readers to realms beyond the skies. The sky pool is not just a pool for the sky, but a journey to the heart and soul on high.
