Stand Up Sit Down

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

All forms of religion are a thorn in my side.
Stand up; sit down, these men cannot decide.
They live by the letter to offer you proof.
They’ve forgotten the Spirit, the Spirit of Truth!

My life here on earth brings me nothing but trouble.
Today’s is enough and tomorrow’s is doubled.
I’m tired of hearing the dragon as he laughs.
He tries teaching the righteous but his words are just chaff!

All their meetings do more harm than good.
I’d avoid them completely if only I could.
But when You call Lord and say: Go over there!
I know there’s a reason and it’s usually to share.
