A Shadow of Self

I sit in this chair, day after day,
Trapped in this prison, unable to play.
I watch the world go by, always the same,
Wishing for freedom, longing for change.

35 years have passed, and yet I remain,
A prisoner of metal, a prisoner of pain.
My limbs are weak, my body confined,
A shadow of what I once was, a burden on my mind.

The laughter and joy that once filled my life,
Has faded away, replaced by endless strife.
I am but a memory, a forgotten soul,
Trapped in this chair, forever alone.

The end is near, I can feel it's hand,
Closer and closer, it's grip so grand.
I will be free, free from this pain,
But in death's embrace, I'll never be the same.

So let me sit here, in my wheelchair of shame,
A constant reminder, of a life not so sane.
A life full of struggles, a life full of woe,
Forever bound to this chair, with nowhere to go.
