Election fever grips the land : A Sestina to general assembly election in India
Election fever grips the land, a fervor to unite,
A season of celebration, three months before the fight.
We dance and party like our lives are at their peak,
Forgetting all else, save for Gandhi's face on each note we seek.
Crazy for our candidate, we campaign day and night,
Fighting for their victory, ideology out of sight.
We stand for them, believing they'll bring prosperity,
But after the election, our hopes turn to adversity.
Our chosen candidate, now a stranger in our eyes,
Regrets creeping in, as we realize our foolish lies.
We thought we knew them, but they were mere facade,
Their true selves hidden, a political charade.
In ancient Rome and Greece, tales of betrayal abound,
Of leaders who promised much, but let their people down.
Like Caesar, who won the hearts of Rome with his charm,
But ultimately led to the Republic's downfall and harm.
Or Agamemnon, whose thirst for glory led to war,
Leaving his people in a state of despair evermore.
But perhaps, in the end, we are the true fools to blame,
For putting our trust in candidates who play the game.
Next time, let us be wiser, and truly see,
The true face of those who seek to lead and govern thee.
So let us join together, and in this election fervor,
Learn from our mistakes, and make a better future.
But as the election nears, the fever grips once more,
Our memories fade, and we're caught in its lure.
We dance and party, convinced that this time will be different,
That our candidate will bring us the change we're convinced is imperative.
But as the votes are counted, and the results are clear,
We're left with a bitter taste, and a sense of fear.
For once again, our candidate has let us down,
Promising one thing and delivering another, a familiar frown.
We're left in a state of despair, wondering where we went wrong,
As we're left to pick up the pieces, and sing a different song.
But perhaps, in the end, it's not the candidate who's to blame,
But rather, our own blindness, and our desire for fame.
For in this never-ending cycle, we're the ones who choose,
And it's up to us to break the pattern, and make a better muse.
So let us come together, and in this election fever,
Learn from our mistakes, and make a brighter future.
For it's not just about the candidate, but about the change we seek,
And it's up to us to make it happen, and our future to reshape.
