The Weak

Are not they timid, and shy, and softly spoken
Of no big size and of varying degree?
Are not they compliant and of poor facility
Trodden on and repressed, with little diginity?

Do they not hide in the shadows
Bow and beg, and plead?
Do we not ignore they cries and sorrows,
While always taking the lead?

Mistaken and ashamed are all of we
To prosper in the pain of the humble and weak
To reign with a Spartan philosphy
Often forsaking those in their humility

About this poem

This poem was originally submitted to Poetry.com back in 2007 an made it as a semi-finalist. The poem was selected to appear in 'Immortal Verses' which was published in 2007, however the letter of notification with the proof that was to be submitted never made it into the hands of the author and thus did not receive the guaranteed publication. This letter was finally recieved by the author (myself) in 2022. I would like the world to enjoy this poem regardless and so am resubmitting it for your enjoyment. Thank you for this delayed honour... it means the world. Jo Scott
