As my dog and i age

A ball of wool
Sleepy, voiceless, tricolored cotton
You appeared in my life by chance
Oh tiny son of Lily

Torn away from home to home
Did I even recognize your sentience?
If memory serves, it was all about schedules
And learning about
the virtues of patience

Your eyes, your beautiful brown eyes
Expressive, showing love, faith, reasoning and yearning
We created our own lingo, often without sound or speech
Devoted to each other forever,
our efforts sterling

Now, I cannot sleep without your snuggles
Caressing ’til you slumber deep & still
Up in a flash, to banish your nightmares
I am Warrior mom, vigilant,
who dares encroach upon your tranquil?

The years together, have been both tedious and fleeting
Joined by energy strings, pulsing ever so gently, then bold
Now we sigh when we sit, grunt when we rise
Our Circadian rhythms in resonance;
who mirrors who, which one beholds?

My foibles forgotten, forgiven without a sulk
Your Love is wholly sans condition
You are etched in my heart, we travel together as souls
Cezar, my sweetest love,  my tiny fur magician
