Bridge of Tears”

J.W Brucks 1955

“Bridge of Tears”

Walking a worn path
my footfalls echo in my head.
Echoes’ of happiness...of anger
of a lost love
The path I have chosen many have walked
for my feet are covered in moist earth from
tears that have fallen before me.
In the distance towers the bridge,
the Gates of Heaven made by man.
One by one we stop mid-span and
look over the waters below.
Tears fall with whispers no one else hears.
"I loved you also" are my whispers
as flowers fall from my hands from
the Bridge of Tears.

About this poem

This poem was inspired by the anti-suicide signs posted on the Golden Gate Bridge. I personally don’t know anyone that has committed suicide from the bridge but I have had this tragedy touch my life. Sometimes amazing things can happen by saying four simple words. (I'm here for you)
