Kornfields

Why are cornfields only used in horror movies?

Baseball movies are culprits as well.

Perhaps the metaphor is the fear of being lost; of being hidden.

My hands are worn, like chewed leather.
My heart, tired and tattered, like a flag left flying during Ike or Irma.

My mind, drained of the only fuel it knows how to use.

Not drained, siphoned.

I must lose you among the stalks, if I should ever see a bountiful harvest, and summer is almost over.

About this poem

I wrote this poem from inside residential treatment, about my inability to let go of a past love.
