Adulthood

To the little girl carrying her Peppa Pig and Minnie Mouse toys across the park,

I hope you get to act and play like a kid for as long as your little heart desires,

and I hope you never have to hear the words "you need to grow up".

Push your baby around in her stroller and play pretend all you want,

Have the time of your life,

Be a kid.

Because one day, it'll be job interviews, past-due bills, and tear-stained pillowcases.

And nothing prepares you for that.

About this poem

I wrote this sitting on top of the monkey bars at a park after a hard day of classes. This poem signifies the realization that my time as a kid was overrun by others' words and I'm giving unspoken advice to the little girl I seen at the park.
