Forever In Our Hearts

Nicole Lawrence 1983 (Manchester, CT)

Forever In Our Hearts

Feelings of sadness, loss and sorrow
Our time on this earth is only just borrowed
Reason escapes us, as we look for someone to blame
Excuses and doubts to try to lessen our pain
Vices and lies we use to get through the day
Evidently don’t help to make the pain go away
Remember the good times, forget about the bad
In fact, just be grateful for all the time you had
Now this is what everyone tells you to try to make you feel better
Only my grief can’t be removed like a warm, soft sweater
Underneath my façade, the smile I paint daily on my face
Resonates the agony for someone I can never replace
Heaven is a “greener” place now, because it’s where you reside
Earth keeps on turning yet I still feel numb inside
As life goes on, time should eventually help me heal
Regardless of the fact that it still doesn’t feel real
Though I miss you dearly, I’m glad your pain has gone away
So know that I love you and will see you again someday

About this poem

My father passed away, suddenly and unexpectedlyat the age of 55, and i hit a writer's block for months. Our little phrase to Him was "Forever In Our Hearts" so I wrote it down the margin line and the rest spilled out
