morning moonlight

Jhonn Rey 2004 (Quezon City)

A rare sight is when the moon is present at dawn,
The morning hue frames its glow with such grace,
Its surface shines as if it emits its own light,
But in a moment too soon, the sun engulfs its glory.

Just like some of us, with fragile, fleeting dreams,
Whose time under the limelight is a ticking bomb,
Whose fame is as short-lived as a bubble,
Holding unto a ledge, desperate not to fall.

I marvel at the sight so elusive and grand,
It shone amidst the threat of being overshadowed,
The world hides those who share the same will,
Unbothered by the possibility of being outclassed.

Be it the tides or the light it emits at night,
Or day, at least early enough for a morning moonlight,
It reflects more than just the sun's rays,
One's will to gleam no matter what shines the brightest.

About this poem

This poem was a result of an instant spark of imagination after I saw the moon at an early morning as I was walking to school.
