Heartbreak without a hyphen

Apsara Khan 2008 (Rajasthan, Jalore)

Ever so slightly
Just a little brightly
I look at the withered skin
Without a single limb
To carry the weight of a fling
The one who bargains
But never blinks
Not the one abusing
Never the one amusing
To grant
All of their pain
To extract
All the love they need
The bones already ceased
While the one without limbs
Starts to grow wings.

About this poem

This poem represents a man who's in love, carrying the weight of love isn't easy, them wishing for you to keep it mutual and show them love ever once in a while is tiring, by weight, it means, their expectation from you, and by limbs, it means you carrying their life, turning it around, and stitching it until it's fully secured, while the opposite party wishes for you to give your best, do they do the same for you? Love is indeed like a collection of debts taken with will, once you fail to pay it, the consequences ground you, but what if you fail to recognise that your partner doesn't think of you first thing in the morning? What if, they aren't putting in the same effort that you do, flying high up with expectations Is all there is left of love.
