Battlefield

On a landscape littered with bad decisions
exists a minefield of pain and regret.
There, you exploded into my heart
and inflicted a wound I can’t forget.

As I retreat to the DM zone
please understand, I want to be brave.
But I’m fighting for so many things
that I have no idea how to save.

Like the curve of your face
the taste of your skin
or the look in your eyes
as I take you in.

Now I’d crawl across the ruin
throughout the bombed-out terrain
and surrender to my captors
just to hear you call my name.

In the silence when the battle’s over
after the rebuilding has begun
I will look into your eyes
and you will tell me that we’ve won.

I love this poem. I can feel the pain of your unrequited love. I've felt that too and it truly is a battlefield.
