Flux

Today, it's bad.
A really bad day,
Today.

Watching you go
Just makes me sad;
If you want me to beg,
Well I won't do that.

A tree I planted
Years back
One day,
Shed it's leaves
Today.
Branches writhing in barren cringe -
Fingers clasp in dire spasm
A low sky, uncaring.

A cycle of labour
And of hope
And of seeds
And of flow
Stalled today.

What good
Ever comes of flux,
Any day?
"Life itself!", some say,
"For Death is calm!"
If they're wise, you're not.
Because all you hear,
Is the rattle and hum
Of a weary engine,
And your earthly fears.

About this poem

The lingering pain of a relationship falling apart - moments of separation relived, unfinished conversations wishfully concluded in your mind, suspended tensions resolved in retrospect.
