YOUR DAZZLING SMILE

You thought you had finally done the impossible.
You assumed you had accurately defined aloneness.
'You' qualified more than any other
To paint the words in shades neither white but not quite black.
Having been abandoned a thousand times,
You should have gotten used to it
But alone you stood again;
The feeling unique and newer, with each relapse.

It shocked you so much you suppressed your sobs
Till it became asthmatic spasms
That made you long to cease and
Yet, your voice was unheard
Beneath the deafening silence
Of depression, your longtime trigger.
Not even Mom saw the bullet scrape, masked by your dazzling smile.
Loneliness, another episode.
