For My Sister

For My Sister 1957 (New Jersey)

For My Sister
Dorothy J Colditz

Hush little ones for I am here
I touch your face, your hand, your tear
and keep you safe and warm all night
I know you want your mother's hand
but, for now I am your aunt
She knows not how she makes you feel
when she is gone, and you need her feel
Maybe soon she will understand
it takes more than love to feel and heal
There is nothing like the gift of life
and giving up the nighttime life
Make a promise to be here
Please keep that promise
which will heal
You must wake up and see the deal
for there are two little ones who need to heal

About this poem

It's about a message meant for my sister about being a better mother to her two children. I submitted this back in 2002 but don't know what happened to it.
