WE MAKE THE PERFECT PAIR

ANUPAMA S 2005 (Trivandrum)

The May sun was going down,
The sky orange and bright.
I hear her footsteps,
The sound of her long strides.

For one year I hadn’t seen her face
We had not slept with our hands laced
Now there she was in front of me,
filling my heart with joy and glee.
Her hair scattered and her gleaming eyes,
carrying bags with her beautiful smile.

The house was filled with a different air,
I could feel fun and madness fill the space.
My sister was here to take me away,
To a land of our own where we enjoy and play.
All the things I wanted to share,
Oh Yes! We made the perfect pair.

About this poem

I wrote this poem on a whim as my elder sister had returned from her college for her holidays. She is 6 years older than me, and I was practically raised by her. We had shifted to a new town and I faced a lot of problems mentally and socially due to her absence. I missed her dearly and was overjoyed at her arrival. I have always looked up to her and love her very much. I have written many poems about her but this one is very special to me. She is the reason I have confidence in myself.

ANUPAMA S

I am a city girl. I am still in school and love to write poems. I feel that it is a good way to express my feelings about something. I have always loved writing poems and am working on a poem about me writing poems. The pandemic has drained my confidence in everything I do and I decided to submit one of the many poems I have written. This was an impulsive decision and I am filling out the form just before my exam to boost my confidence. more…
