A Shade Too Dark

"You're a shade too dark", they had said,
They did not see how she bled,
As the words cut sharp at her heart,
Which told her this was just the start.

Hatred delved into her so deep,
Self love, a promise she couldn't keep.
No more could she look herself in the eyes,
The image she saw, she began to despise.

At times, her Color stopped her breath,
Promising, one day it would bring death.
Gone are Taylor & Floyd, who's to blame?
It's the same story, just a different name.

Tears in her eyes, "the hate they give",
She finally said, "makes me hate to live".
"A shade too dark", they had said,
They did not care to see how she bled.
