A meant to be Mum
"Was I a baby in your tum?"
You're question sinks in and I start to feel numb
What do I say to my sweet little boy?
Who's smile fills my heart with unending joy
I'm holding my belly where your new brother grows
I can't find any words and my panic it shows
You reach for my hand and I hold it so tight
I try to say something but nothing feels right
You were only a baby a small boy aged two when you stole my whole heart without meaning to do
Your mother had sent you for a visit one day
It's now been three years since she walked away
I look at you softly as tears fill my eyes
I must tell you the truth without any lies
"You were a baby from another mum's tum...you were her baby but your still my son"
We sit down slowly and you climb on my knee your little hands rest gently
on your brother to be
We both remain silent and it's as if we both know
that this moment is precious and we don't let it go
About this poem
I was lucky enough to raise my step son since he was 2 years old.He is 11 years old now. I wrote wrote this poem one late night after a long emotional day. He was 4 year old at the time.Writting poetry is like therapy and I find it my best way to process thoughts. Im so lucky to have my two sons. It has been an incredible journey of self discovery. I've experienced every emotion possible. I share a big piece of my heart reserved for my special bonus child❤️
