The Hubris of I-ness

A Confessional Poem of I-ness: By the hubris of I-ness, we distance ourselves from our own true inner selves. Our most virulent pandemic of the 21st Century that overrides COVID-19, is the hubris of ego that feeds and festers on the soul of modern humanity; and which should give us cause to reflect and contemplate. In this poem I describe this outrageous hubris of I-ness as “Pompous Dysregulation.” The Hubris of I-ness, is a hubris syndrome that manifests itself most definitively with excess, particularly when people are in positions of excessive power and authority. Pompous dysregulation, unrecognized as a malady, displays no need for sobriety or moderation. And yet it must be called a dysregulation because, in its haughtiness, it becomes poorly regulated and, in extreme cases, unregulated to the point where absolute power corrupts absolutely. We have become today, a lost generation, dis-individuated, disregulated, overly pompous with the hubris of ego, courted and manipulated by electronic-communications media; and desperately in search of the return to a more sober moral identity as Homo Sapiens.
