ALONE

The loneliness, it smothers me,
But the darkness seems welcoming.
The light dims more each day,
As the shadows call my name.

 I cling to the solitude,
It becomes my home.
It keeps me protected,
But it keeps me alone.

 The walls that shelter me,
Imprison me just the same.
Each brick molded by experience
Each memory colored by pain.

 Towering high above me,
A fortress I have created.
Each stone was cast at me
From the walls of a heart so jaded.

I chose this poem as my personal favorite due to the subject matter and poetic prose. The lines depicted an emotional state that are described well through thoughtful detail. Well done.
