Afflictions

Afflictions got me greatly covered
Beating down  more than you realise beneath
the sound of my silent cry,

My worth told by the story of tradition
The addiction held behind closed doors until
the sun rise just like my mother's smiles
I mask the pain and walk a while,

I scream out to the cursed what have you done!
My inheritance hurts
for joy there is none
There's only broken souls beating me down
telling me to lay down , and so
I lay down
For you to shine beneath your dirty crown
your glorified smiles while your fists pound down
burying in limbo a depressive sound

I say HEY THIS STOPS NOW

generations endured
I say this generation be cured
of cowardly curses throwing heavy fist at all they don't understand
Being a woman doesn't make me less of a man.....man

So here I stand
Speaking for the little tears
hidden in graves of little girls
While he's sentenced to death because he's not straight
Tell me, what is your definition of a man made

Judgments fall heavy in the chambers
of your very own mind when you lay hands on those not of
your kind
I remain human
DO YOU REMAIN BLIND?

GENDER BASED VIOLENCE
The manifestation of memory of the history of man
being uprooted by empty hands
Still to hold what we teach behind closed doors
Tell me, can this curse ever be cured?

I look into the spirits of our youth
And I see an uproar an uprising an answer to it all
Yet...afflictions got us greatly covered Beating down more than we realise
beneath the sound of our silent cries.

About this poem

This poem is about GBV and how many people don't speak about the abuse they indure because they feel afflicted by the fact the person abusing them is the bread winner in the house, the father or mother may be arrested and other kids will be left alone.
