THE TIME-TRAVELLER CALLS

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

The time-traveller journeys
Back and forth in time,
To the best and worst years
In such faraway climes.

Travelling throughout history
He changes whatever he will,
Bringing the dead back to life
Then just as easily he kills.

He changes whatever he wishes
Until timelines start to unravel,
Then once again he takes off
Upon some nefarious travel.

Nothing makes him hesitate
And no-one can ever stop him,
He changes good times to bad
Then back again, at a whim.

He brings back the dinosaurs
And wipes out the hominids,
Destroying all of humanity
No regrets for what he did.

He goes to see the future
Or to the Tower of Babel,
He led the Spanish Inquisition
And joined disgusting cabals.

He saw the Carmie bashing
Watched Salem's witch hunts,
He helped the union-bashers
And watched America stunt.

He turns bad things into good
And turns good things into bad,
Until we rue the life we live
And long for what we once had.
