Don’t Serve Money

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

When I thought that I didn’t
Serve money I was wrong
The truth in the matter is
I served it all along

I had gotten married to it
When still I was so young
I thought I had to have it
Just to have a little fun

I counted on my money
For my food and for my clothes
A shelter for above my head
While all the world I loathed

I hated that it cost so much
To live upon the earth
Until one day I realized
To evil I gave birth

I let that child rule over me
I nursed it and fed it
Until it grew into a beast
I surely do regret it

Let the Word of God set you free!
Jesus will supply all that you need!

“He who has ears; let him hear
What the Spirit says to the churches”

I am not wrong in what I said
The Spirit speaks the truth
So, let him come and speak to you
While you are in your youth
