Atoms

At first, there was nothing
An ice ball traveling fast enough to leave you behind again and again and again
Before you could even take a breath to call for a taxi
Atom after atom being thrown together by the ever forward motion
To create:
This.
To think that so much love
Bicycles with training wheels
Meadows of dandelion weeds and daisies
Electricity
Every butterfly that’s ever fluttered itself in a stomach or a heart
The creatures on the ocean floor we will never meet
And the new baby birds we meet every spring
Were all created by Earth’s constant forward motion
You, my love, were made from tiny bits who were just too lonely to go it alone
Holding hands, they created a community
A city
You were born from that city on an ice ball traveling 66 thousand miles per hour
Spun from gold and Nothing
First, the motion created your hands. You can’t get far without hands
Then your eyes and your toes
Then the tightness in your chest when you want to cry
The pain in your heart when you feel rejected
It created your laugh and your anxiety together
Swirling with New, the motion created your thighs, your talents, your ability to love
And your ability to be loved
Fiercely, by me
Sometimes I sit so close because I am caught up in the 66,000 mile per hour winds that generated your smile
I apologize if your beauty makes me stumble or the wisdom you hold from 4.5 billion years ago makes me stutter
In the presence of a goddess, created from a ball of Nothing I am doing my best to keep calm.
