I Have Grown Older Now
George Cook 1934 (Lanarkshire)
I have grown older now, the signs are there to see
When looking in the mirror, “Is that really me?”
Furrowed brow, baggy eyes, spots and saggy skin
Double chin and wrinkles. That’s the state I’m in.
Where are all the good looks, once a part of me?
All of them have vanished, now just a memory.
It’s not just the good looks, there is plenty more
Aches and pains everywhere, that weren’t there before.
Nano-naps are constant, more trips to the loo
Specially throughout night-time, every hour or two.
A rollator for walking, and glasses for to read,
And due to my arthritis, there’s gadgets that I need
To pop the lid on jam jars, and unscrew bottle tops.
And for an eye condition, I need to use eye drops.
Do I need a hearing aid? I’m told that it is so
But I can hear quite well, if the sound is not too low.
I must rely on others, for jobs that must be done
And for that I thank them, each and every one.
I’ve become a member, of a very special class
Thankful that I am still, on the right side of the grass.
