Works and Faith
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
You have the faith as well as works,
My faith and works I will show you;
Needing both because evil lurks,
Unto the Lord remaining true.
Even so, only faith alone,
Without your works then faith is dead;
The Father then cannot condone,
Less being spiritually fed.
You believe that the Lord is One,
Though demons believe and shudder;
The Father, His Spirit, and Son,
Only God steers with a rudder.
Do you desire to be shown,
That faith without works is useless?
Only a fool would not have known,
The Lord your God can never bless.
Would you have sacrificed your son,
As to lie him on an altar;
For a forfeiture that has begun,
In Spirit cleansing of a scar.
You can see that faith was active,
Along with your works is complete;
Allowing the Lord to forgive,
Gives Satan another defeat.
Defeated being friends with God,
Allows Scripture to be fulfilled;
Cleansing you where you have been flawed,
Inspiration that has instilled.
You see that one is justified,
By works and not just faith alone;
And chosen by the crucified,
Who in Heaven sits on His throne.
Branches without the trunk are dead,
So the body less the spirit;
Faith to be spiritually fed,
Your works will display your merit.
