As the Bombs Go Off

James E. Thomas Jr 1955 (Seattle)

Why am I here?
I love my other--I love my children,
As the bombs go off,
As the bombs go off

My brothers fall,
My sisters howl,
As the bombs go off,
As the bombs go off

Children who used to run in the streets
Now lying in the gutter,
As the bombs go off,
As the bombs go off

A mother crumpled,
A child slumped over,
As the bombs go off,
As the bombs go off

Home is a memory,
Happiness lost forever,
As the bombs go off,
As the bombs go off

About this poem

I began writing poems at an early age. I wanted to express my feelings for life and the world through my writings. This poem is also an extension of my feelings. Sometimes I have difficulty expressing my feelings for a subject, so I write a poem about it. On the subject of this poem, I am dismayed at the current events that are occurring, so hence the poem.
