A Sentient Insane

An insane woman with rags,
looking here and there in fear
lest she could be vexed
by the urchins and hags.

The town dwellers sneered at her
when she took remnants from bin.
The stray dogs also took shares.
A cordial co-existence, which was very rare.

How a creature could share foods
When she was living on shares of others?
Was it not a satire
upon the world of brutes and rudes?

One day a stray dog was scampering
as the urchins were running after it,
throwing nodules of mud and stones
and made it howling and wailing.

Suddenly the insane appeared with a stick,
shaking violently to the urchins.
They checked their motives.
The savior sheltered the meek.

Alas! how civilized people
can be so imprudent
When the sentiment of an insane
can suffer and rankle?
