A Horse named Robert

A horse named Robert

There once was a stubborn horse named Robert
Who wished he could send his owner into orbit

For when he was called, only to my grandmother he’d respond
Because my grandfather for some reason, he wasn’t too fond

On Roberts back my grandfather would climb
And rode him to the fields, to work till dinner time

Grandfather always wondered if Robert ever caught on
To his nemesis who always pulled a bait and switch con

About this poem

True poem written about my grandfathers stubborn horse that was named after his stubborn friend Robert. It's true that the horse would never go to my grandfather when called, only Robert would come when my grandmother Winnie called him and then my grandfather would hop on his back and go to the fields to work all day. (1933)

I have a copyright at the Library of Congress and am the author of Memories of My Grandfather. I am a college graduate with a degree in Library Science and a two-time former Deans list student. I love to preserve history, and have cleaned grave stones, helped others with preparing their family genealogies to donate to the public library. Have attended an excavation in Connersville, Indiana on President Lincoln's former cabinet member, Caleb Blood Smith. I have an Indiana History book about the Caleb Smith excavation with consent to excavate papers at the I.U. Library Stacks in Bloomington, Indiana. I've had a poem called "Fall" published in the IVY TECH literary Magazine. I was chosen as "editors pick" for one of my stories "Thanksgiving" at former web page called Open Salon. I collect and have over 1000 hand-written letters from a lady in Nebo about her life and I save them on ancestry. more…
