Another Day

Water surrounds me and all my senses dim

The sounds of muffled screams come from somewhere up above the rim

It's peaceful down here

Near the ocean's depth

I sink with the remains of what used to be and hold my last breath

My life held no meaning

I realize as it ends

My work behind the counter blended well with a trend

I always did the minimum, never did my best

Now I regret that as I go lay and rest.

The salt cuts at my wounds

And I remember a time

In the shade of a tree, it was noon

The prunes so dry and sweet

I remember this, calm and happy with no care in the world

I was the kid that sat in the corner alone

But still why, why was I the one who had to live this life

Could they not postpone my fate

Maybe in a year or two I would be great, content, fulfilled

or maybe I would still be the same, alone.

Water surrounds me, If I could go back, I would

Could I have lived a life, maybe had a wife?

I start drifting, no longer am I filled with panic

A calm settles over me and I done.

I wake from bed sun streaming in from the window, I still have another day.
