A still night

A gentle town of yonder
The calm creeps in, faster
The still winds never seemed to falter
My mind can never station,
Station in place.

It’s not something I can master,
Not something I can do faster,
My mind only seems to wander;
A bird unbound.

In the tranquility of the dark
Lo! There is no bark!
Yet my eyes don’t falter,
Something I can’t alter.
And there I lay
Lay in shame
Oh, how I will suffer in the morning,
Oh, how for sleep I have a yearning…
