A Day at the Beach

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

Sometimes when I’m sitting and crying alone
I call out to God; but he has no phone
For him every house is a local call
When he knocks on the door he surprises them all

“O my God” they say to him
We didn’t think you’d come back again!
But he told you he would
And he tells you the truth!

At the time that he comes
You’ll be living in booths

He goes to fine houses and knocks on the door
But nobody answers; they left for the shore
They had a good time at the beach all that day
And when they came home He took them away

For good; the party begins and then it ends!
