Afraid

Tim Taylor 1961 (North Carolina)

Summertime came and so quickly now gone.
This makes three now, since I’ve been alone.
I thought before summer’s end, I’d surely return.
To a place I so foolishly thought I belonged.
Now I know.
I will never go home.
A tab has been kept.
The toll must be paid.
For the years of darkness, I made.
For the way I behaved.
I closed my eyes and for a moment I prayed
God, please help me be not so afraid.
Now my thoughts are racing so fast.
The sounds they make are the ghosts from my past.
With each passing sunset getting harder than last.
My fear is, that my fate has been cast!
Just in that moment my phone began ringing.
My son just wanted to know, what I’ve been thinking.
I did not speak of the dark places I’ve gone.
Then he told me that he felt alone.
And with hearing my voice he was closer to home.
He said that he loved me then hung up the phone.
Feeling much better, hearing from someone who cares.
The words I just heard!
An answer to the prayer!
I no longer was scared.
God just let me know, he will always be there.
