Your Final Light

I remember your exuberant laughter that filled these walls
And an air of joviality so thick it cemented to everything you passed
You would find ways to pester and prod, always looking for me to break my poker face
Just to brush it off and laugh away my annoyance with you

Yet the rooms have become soundless and hollow
With a smothering black cloud of sorrow left behind, leaving me unable to cry out to the deafening silence.
No one left to pester and prod, yet my poker face is still broken
Replaced by the agony of bidding my last farewell to you

Yet even as the darkness looms over me, I see the faint rays of light break beyond
It is first harsh on my eyes and rejected in my suffering, cursing it for daring to shine
But soon I find it brings warmth to a cold and unforgiving world
Allowing for the flourishing nourishment of all that is beautiful

I am pained to know that I felt your presence for the last time
And pray that I will one day be graced to find it again
I know for now you are gone, but my memories of you will never fade

I will never forget you or your light.
