trapped

The red thread from my wrists
Reminds me I’m still tied to this.
This cage I’m living in
Keeps me the way I’ve been.
I can’t stand the thought of you.

Joyous as a skylark I was,
But I flew too close to the ocean.
Now a shark has swallowed me whole
As you force me to drink this potion.

Getting dizzy as time goes by
I try and try.
It’s hard to do what I want to do
When my wings are clipped so I can’t fly.

Maybe one day I can see the sky once more.
Maybe one day my life won’t be a bore.
But until then I try and try
Even though I might die.
