Want

Ed Hatch 1980 (muskoka)

I give you what you want,
Or at least I try.

I want you to be happy,
At the expense of mine.

I listen to what you like,
I keep my opinions to myself.

I watch you do what you want,
Then I do what you want me to do.

You are you,
And I am just here.

You want me to compromise,
So that's what I do.
And I don't ask the same.

What do you want?
Because I can't have what I want.

What do you like?
Because my likes don't count.

Am I me? Or just a reflection of you.

Do I exist for myself? Or just as a part of your life.

What would I be without you?

I don't know, but I want.
