Forever Mine

My world was full of darkness,
Until you came and brought light.
A smile that was once dull,
Shined again so bright.

I trusted no one,
Doubt was in control.
You showed me how to take a chance,
You brought back my lost soul.

I tried so hard to resist,
Telling myself we're just friends.
What future could we have,
Our worlds are on opposite ends?

My head said give up,
But my heart was taking over.
I didn't know if I was ready,
To begin with a new lover.

You tried to push me away,
But you already had my heart.
With both of our troubled pasts,
We deserved a fresh start.

You told me first,
That you were falling in love.
I felt it too as I fell,
All the way to the stars above.

We took the plunge,
And planned a life.
I was scared from my trauma,
It still cuts like a knife.

My love for you still grows,
You are my best friend.
Our hearts forever beat as one,
Until the very end.

About this poem

This was written for my boyfriend, who lives out of state. I wrote this for the one year anniversary of when we first started talking since high school. I wrote this to show him how much he means to me and my love for him is eternal.
