"ONE-HIT WONDER"
"ONE-HIT WONDER"
by P J Gammarano, Sr.
from Thur. 16 Dec. 2021
[refrain / R] One hit wonder
Let no one put asunder
Sure the risk of royalty plunder
but not to write is, yes, a blunder
enjoyment is the same, song by song
Just three minutes of pleasure, doesn't last long!
One or many, its a prize of prizes;
it comes in many various sizes.
A string of words, quite simple, you see
A link of thoughts, music history
Artists remembered, yes or no
when the song is playin', they steal the show.
Some happy, some sad, some played fast, some played
slow
[R]
Now if only havin' an uncle in the business
Such a song should have quotable quotes...
...the ones that go well with musical notes:
A rockin' tune...
... that sends you to the moon
or serenity heard...
with notes as gentle as the chirp of a bird.
Through the decades, all it takes...
is one...the industry accepts no fakes
for one to take one of these relished cakes
Where is it that one can find the breaks ?!
[R]
On the back of an envelope it goes.
What the topic is, it's likely everyone knows.
Whether love, passion, indifference, or hate
which tune can spell out that happy fate ?
[ R ]
We can live our lives without a clue
But a song can sometimes give a clue
One-hit wonders, just for you
but for a million people, too.
Those one-hit words bear some fruit
perhaps if played upon the lute
words about a girl so cute
or up against the forces brute
[R]
