AS THAT SEA

FrankCalle 1948 (La Habana)

As that sea that surrounds us
and undresses us
And is lost in the curved distances of the horizon
your body…

As that sea that swallows the afternoon sun
to turn day into night,
and the night in quiet dawn,
under the murmur of the waves that softly arrive
to the fine sands of your sleeping beach…

As that sea that borders continents
and can embrace an island,
and give life when not death...

With a sea like that, close and deep,
perfect lover,
that overflows when the storm is higher,
I want to count the immense waves that join us in the distance,
and the eternal hours that separate us forever...
