Autumn of life

Daniel C Wintermeyer 1952 (Minneapolis)

Twas in the fall when we first met
at that old park bench where we used to sit
now old, worn and broken with age
where we got acquainted and turned the page
We would solve the problems of the world
and share a joke or two
But now you've gone on to a better place
and left me feeling blue
Now when I walk through that old park
I see that old bench all broken and stark
with golden leaves swirling in the breeze
The autumn of our lives is here
that brought me prayerfully to my knees
twas life that was lived and shared
and slipped away so fast
was lucky to have a friend who cared
a lifetime friendship that lasted
but all good things must end
Now Im old and have my past
rich with laughter and tears
and lots of memories to last my golden years
