Job's Job
Job’s Job
An apple a day keeps the doctor away
Or so they say
But not the monsters
Oh no, not the ghosts
Little Stevie had a dream
Become renowned
And full of esteem
But what little Stevie didn’t know
His dreaming would lead him down below
Clap!
Bang!
Construction noises!
Little Stevie worked day and night
Building
Baiting
Balding
He sold his soul to the government
Kept their sacred covenant
Built phones
Built destruction
Built an empire
Little Stevie found a Job
Little Stevie led a mob
Mass destruction raining down
On our silly little town
“Stevie stop!” we all cried out
Stevie no
Stevie go
Stevie…
… bro
An apple a day keeps the doctor away
But Stevie had one too many apples
Sickly and pale
Hospital lights illuminating his face
Like the reflections of candy crush
On the flesh of a millennial
Those godforsaken millennials
How they mourned the loss of their leader
The coveted apple now fallen
Jobs lost
Job lost
Now let it be known, dearest listener
Dearest watcher
Adoring fans
The mere mention of apple will lead to your doom
Health will fall
Hair will fall
High necks will rise
For who would want to disrupt the slumber of a dead man
About this poem
This poem is a nuanced take on the ideologies and effects of late-stage capitalism. Focusing primarily on Steve Job's and the Apple empire, Job's Job is a commentary on our modern society and the level of dependence we have on technology. I have spent many months researching and revelling in this dreamy abstraction of current society and the inner workings of this new technological age. This piece of literature is my life's work and my only hope is that Job's Job will leave a lasting impression once I pass. more »
