June Bug

Douglas H. Mc Clintock 1934 (Sarnia, Ontario)

Yesterday I had a little visitor come in
To make his presence known to me,
An orange body with a white face and black eyes to grin
A June Bug of all things so dear !

On my window sill, tiny bugs would be there
I used to crush them, how ruthless was I.
Not any more, I let live, yet for another day,
This June Bug  on my computer mouse, wanting to play,

I watched him crawl, only about 3/16 long,
They say neat things come in small packages,
He was certainly the one to make my day
I fed him a crumb, he flipped it with his tongue !

That little bug flying beneath my lamp
He was showing off and why not,
He gave me hours of joy, I was in a trance
To witness one of God's creatures, so tiny but complete !

Some day when your pace is very slow,
You will have time to witness small things,
The capture of moments in a June Bug's life,
A body so tiny, orange, black and white, wings in flight !
