Addiction

You have robbed me of my car, my house, my kids and my dreams.
That’s right you have robbed me of almost everything.
From my dignity to my morals
And all the while I just sat here on my laurel.

Focused on only where I could get my next fix
But I can no longer worry about just this.
Today is the day that I tell you good riddance
And begin to climb out of this hole that I sit in.

Sobriety has showed up and brought with it a ladder.
So, I’m making moves even if only small pitter patter.
I’m picking myself up, no more being stuck.
I’m here to move on because I’m tired of being so far just fucked.

This is for me; it is not at all for you.
All my addiction has ever allowed was for me to just be used and abused.
It caused me to be homeless and often even hungry
But from this point after it will get nothing from me.
