For In This Cave

No crashing waves of roaring seas
No words are whispered in the breeze
No sunbeams glow or rain soak through
No glistening leaves, soaked in dew

For in this cave it’s dark and dim
For in this cave it’s cold and grim

As those above so full of life
Smile in the sun, in hail feel strife
Here I sit inside this cave
Settling into an early grave

For in this cave it’s dark and dim

A crack in the rock, a crevasse in the ceiling
As light pours through, now revealing
The world above, with all its glamour
Towards this gap I try to clamber
Yet soon enough it starts to rain
Too weak to climb, I climb in vain

A sudden misstep, a sudden trip
I fall back down as hopes are stripped
The gap to freedom slams its doors
I’m back in the cave, as I was before

For in this cave it’s dark and dim
For in this cave it’s cold and grim

Yet it’s my home.
