Awake

Patricia Valdes 1986 (Texas)

Night after night She lays there awake.
Alone,
Unsatisfied,
She remains Beside Him.

Things have changed.
Yet she still remains.
She lays beside Him.
She is completely vulnerable.

He always get his.
He always falls asleep.

She remains beside him.

She lays beside Him.
She remains beside Him.

Alone,
Unsatisfied,
Awake.

About this poem

It’s about a woman whose needs are not being met. A man who doesn’t take the time to make sure his woman is satisfied in bed. She longs for more. But because she loves him, she remains beside him. But that woman’s thoughts wonder as she lays beside me.
