Who Switched The Mix
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
I have yet gone to sleep or awakened,
As a man to think I am black.
In a place called,
The United States Of America.
Although of late there are others,
Gaining to get media coverage.
To declare and proclaim,
Their bigoted racist values.
I am grateful to have my skin color,
On their minds to address it.
Prioritized as the air we breathe.
However, I do at times wonder why,
My recognized ethnicity...
Receives from them,
Overwhelming and free publicity.
And...
Coming from those who should know,
They are privileged to be white.
And in the majority too?
There has to be something I do,
To be lavished...
With such attention and flattery.
Increasingly I find myself observing,
People like me being ridiculed.
Disrespected and deceived.
And also accused,
Of destroying their quality of life.
A quality of life,
All who say they are Americans...
Historically depend upon.
Well...
Those unafraid to admit,
The teaching of 'Critical Race Theory'...
Is not a threat.
But a conscious omission of the truth as is.
And on a daily basis I have witnessed,
This treating to feed on fiction.
And the division this has caused to upset,
Those treating their denial...
As if their delusions have become soured.
To bitter the familiar taste,
Of sugarized lies to replace them.
With a truth they can not face.
For a preference to keep living fantasies.
Even though that flavor to savor,
Has long be showing,
The beginnings of ruining...
Their sickened mentalities.
Who...
Has switched the mix of their coolaid,
To poison it?
'OH please. Please pick me.
I know!'
'Put your hand down.
We all know the answer.
That was a rhetorical question.'
'Then why ask it?'
'You of all people here should know why.'
'Why?'
'When was the last time,
Your raised your hands up in the air?
Acting like you just don't care.
And got down and funky.
Shaking your money maker?!'
'Now...
That is being racist.'
'And...
Why am I not surprised or shocked,
Only you...
Would find that on your mind,
Worthy to comment on it.'
'Because...
Unlike you,
I can't grow dreads?
Or I'm not into rap,
Hip-hop or house music?
Trust me.
I can get down and nasty!'
'No?'
'Yes!'
'The great reveal.
I can't believe my lieing eyes!
