Andromeda

Do you remember that cottage,
and that patch of forest unspoiled,
as though the earth and sky enough
to hold us, oh Galilee, and grant
my heart a mercy to forget nothing,
and let me not skip a year,
not one felt empty, sorry, used
throughout your starry centuries
as though the flowers had dreams
and you bought a bright painted chest
and you climbed a mountain
but what goodbye is this, the devil
sings the blues, in fire and ash,
but do you recall that cottage,
those hummingbirds, that life,
like the bottom of a formless sea.
