Tortured Souls

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

Impressively dressed.
And going through the motions.
Of doing their best to represent,
A creation of reality.
That has left their minds,
Performing activities.
Pointless without common sense.
To witness mentalities becoming demented.

Tortured souls.
Detached and rushing,
To set fires with a desire to torch...
Their own place where they dwell.
Determined to extinguish,
Remnants of their own consciousness.
Long to have been singed.
From lives to fiction.
Inviting their arrival,
Not to realize it to be...
Eternity in 'Hell!'

'Finally you are here.
Your cells await.'

'Who are you?
And...
What is this dark hot place?'

'Some call me Lou.
Short for Lucifer.
But I prefer to be called 'The Warden'.
It personalizes your long stay.'

'You know, Lou?
None of us intended to be here.'

'They all say the same thing.
But I promise you before I am through,
You will adapt and adust!'

'Whew!
That's a relief.
How long will that be?'

'You will find my time is yours.
Limitless.
Now...
Do you prefer coffee, tea?
Or a sizzling hot taste of my 'Coco?'
My personal favorite beverage.
